- Robot: A hobbyist built AURA, a personal “brain” for an open robot platform, using only a laptop. It recognizes household members, keeps learned and told information separate, and seeks permission before committing code. The project demonstrates how accessible robotics and AI now are.
- On-Device AI: This keynote argues that Apple Silicon devices form a massive, underused AI compute fleet. Drawing on the MLX ecosystem, it shows how on-device inference can handle frontier models through advanced optimization, and why privacy, latency, cost, and sovereignty will shift more AI workloads from cloud to device.
- Docker: Docker’s Agentic Platform enables AI agents to autonomously read issues, code, test, and prepare pull requests in isolated sandboxes with secure identities. The talk covers orchestrated specialist agents, parallel workflows, and key production lessons on cost, hallucinations, human oversight, safety, and observability.
- Runtime: AI coding agents reduce the importance of language syntax, making runtime performance and operability more critical. Java’s JVM and standard library are a strong fit: newer JDKs continually improve speed, observability, garbage collection, and usability without changing the programming model, with major innovations underway in Valhalla, Leyden, and Lilliput.
- Reconversion: This keynote examines the evolving role of software engineers amid AI-driven transformation. Drawing on lessons from hundreds of developers worldwide, it explores balancing personal life, uncertainty, and excitement; accelerating AI-focused reskilling; and adapting effectively to the profession’s rapidly changing future.
